A 47-year-old lady comes to see you with an ulcer on her upper left gum for the past month. She smokes 10 cigarettes per day. The ulcer is intermittently painful.
On examination, she has a 1 cm area of white ulceration on her upper left gum, which is non-tender to palpation.
