Abstract

Answer D. Levonorgestrel 3 mg as a single dose
Levonorgestrel emergency contraception is a progesterone that inhibits ovulation. It is usually administered as a single oral 1.5 mg dose. It is licenced for use 3 days after unprotected sexual intercourse (UPSI) or contraceptive failure and can be used more than once in a menstrual cycle. In this scenario a 3 mg dose was used, as a double dose should be given to women who are on enzyme-induced medications like carbamazepine in this case or in women who are overweight. The copper intrauterine contraceptive device is contraindicated in this scenario owing to possible pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
