Abstract

Answer A. Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies
Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies should be checked if autoimmune thyroid disease is suspected as it’s the most sensitive serological test. In subclinical hypothyroidism, a neck ultrasound scan is not recommended. A fine needle aspiration biopsy is usually helpful to distinguish between benign and malignant lumps within the thyroid gland. Excess or deficiencies of the thyroid binding globulin can affect the measurement of the thyroid hormones but not their action and can avoid misdiagnosis.
