Abstract

Answer C. Offer cover with an alternative for 4 weeks
Rebound hypersecretion occurs following cessation of a prolonged course of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Patients experience symptoms of acid reflux for up to 4 weeks after treatment is stopped. This may cause reliance on medication in some. It would be sensible to offer cover with an alternative, such as an H2RAs or alginate therapies, on withdrawal of a PPI.
