Abstract

Answer D. Retinal detachment
Retinal detachment is more common in people over 60 years of age, and other risk factors include diabetes mellitus and myopia. Symptoms include flashes and floaters. Patients may describe a grey area within their vision. Fundoscopy may well be normal in the early stages of the condition. Macular degeneration affects the central vision and usually presents with blurry or distorted vision. Amaurosis fugax is usually a painless transient loss of vision, whereas uveitis causes a painful red eye with worsening vision. Glaucoma would not cause these symptoms.
