Abstract

Answer B. Greater trochanter pain syndrome
Greater trochanter pain syndrome describes trochanteric bursitis. It presents with lateral hip pain and a focal point of tenderness over the greater trochanter. The normal X-ray makes osteoarthritis more unlikely. Gout would usually present with a swollen, red and tender joint and this history is not particularly typical of tendonitis.
