Abstract

Answer B. Fractionated exhaled nitric oxide test
There is a discrepancy between the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidelines on how to test for asthma. The NICE guidelines are more prescriptive in the order tests should be arranged. Their recommendation is the following order:
Fractionated exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) Spirometry Spirometry with reversibility Serial peak flow measurements
The BTS guidelines are more flexible and appreciate that the tests might be arranged in a different order for individual patients.
