Abstract

Answer C. Rotator cuff injury
Rotator cuff tears typically present with pain and weakness of the lateral deltoid. The pain is exacerbated by overhead movement and may be present at night if the patient sleeps on the affected side. The three most effective examination techniques are the active painful arc test, drop arm test and weakness on external rotation. Plain film radiographs are useful to exclude fractures, avulsions or dislocations. Ultrasound scans can be used in case of diagnostic uncertainty.
