Abstract

Answer C. Enteric fever
Enteric fever is caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with Salmonella Typhi or Paratyphi via faecal-oral transmission. In the UK, it is most commonly seen in travellers returning from South Asia. The incubation period is between 10 to 20 days. If left untreated, 15–20% develop complications. As antibiotic resistance is common, microbiology advice should be sought.
