Infants with bilateral undescended testes detected at birth should be referred to a paediatrician to exclude a disorder of sexual development. If this has been done and one or both testes remain undescended at the 6 to 8-week check, the child should be re-examined at 3 months. Most will descend spontaneously by then. If one or both testes remain undescended at 3 months, the child should be seen by a paediatric surgeon before 6 months of age and an operation should be performed between 6 and 12 months of age or as soon as possible if diagnosed later.
