Social prescribing offers solutions to patients so that they can engage with services through the social and third sector. It looks to empower patients and give them personalised care. It can build on social support groups and takes a holistic approach to care. Many types of patient might benefit from this, but out of the options, the elderly lady could find a volunteer useful to help her and prevent against social isolation. The child’s parents could initially speak to his school to identify and resolve any issues; the young man would benefit from referral to a specialist services dealing with drug misuse issues and the woman with rheumatoid arthritis needs medical expert help. The 45-year-old accountant might benefit from relationship counselling.
