Abstract

Answer D. Ulipristal acetate
This lady fits the criteria for having emergency contraception after an episode of unprotected sexual intercourse because her last Depo-Provera® progesterone injection was over 14 weeks ago. The history of recurrent pelvic infection makes insertion of the copper intrauterine device less suitable. Levonorgestrel should be used within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system is not indicated for emergency contraception. Ulipristal acetate can be used up to 120 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse so would be the option of choice here.
