Abstract

Answer E. Trazadone
Pharmacological treatment of agitation in dementia should always be second line after more conservative measures are tried first. Trazadone can be used for agitation as it is a sedating antidepressant. Anti-dementia drugs are usually reserved for instances where other drugs have not provided a good effect. Mood stabilisers have either too little evidence or are proven to be ineffective. Mirtazapine can be used if anxiety or depression is suspected.
