Abstract

Answer B. Provide safety-netting advice and review in 72 hours if not improving
This case describes acute otitis media (AOM). Oral antibiotics provide little additional benefit, but a back-up prescription can be given. In any case, amoxicillin would be the antibiotic of choice (unless there was a history of an allergy). Topical drops are not indicated. Urgent referral would only be warranted if there were signs of complications like mastoiditis. Safety netting for review is appropriate.
