Abstract

Answer C. Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest
The clinical picture is suggestive of bronchiectasis. Patients should be referred to secondary care and investigated for bronchiectasis where there is persistent production of purulent sputum, especially where the history indicates relevant associated risk factors, in particular patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Diagnosis is reached by a computerised tomography (CT) scan.
