DeQuervain's disease is classified as a Work Related Upper Limb Disorder (WRULD) which is frequently treated by therapists in hand and rheumatology units. In order to maximise efficacy of therapy intervention, it is essential that therapists understand relevant anatomy, aetiology, clinical features including the most important criteria used for diagnosis, and treatment strategies. Knowledge of these ensures therapy intervention is focused and designed specifically to meet the individual's need. This paper presents a literature review of deQuervain's disease: anatomy and aetiology are described; clinical features and the important criteria for diagnosis are identified; and treatment is discussed.
