Abstract

I am delighted to feature a set of articles that collectively examine a wide array of competitive and operational challenges that industry leaders are addressing right now—from questions about data integrity and price fairness, to managing employee priorities and driving revenue. The findings not only offer important practical and conceptual insights, but as I noted in the May 2019 Editorial, the implications are far-reaching and go well beyond the focal studies. For example, the lead article by Agarwal, Koch, and McNab identifies several notable differences in the performance metrics that are reported by two leading industry data providers. These differences have profound implications for any type of strategic or functional decision-making process that relies on accurate and contemporary market-based data. Similarly, the study by Lucas and Spilde examined the ability of gaming customers to detect differences in payout probabilities across paired games. The findings not only have relevance for gaming and integrated resort settings, but they can also be applied to many other types of contexts and stakeholder groups. These and the other papers included in this issue are excellent references for the type of prescriptive insight that advances our knowledge and improves real-world practice. Enjoy!
