Abstract
Blending of sustainable resource based polymers with synthetic polymers can be used to design biodegradable and biocompatible materials that hold immense potential for their application as green packaging materials. Since the molar mass of sustainable resource based polymers is lower than the synthetic polymers, they are likely to form heterogeneous blends with low compatibility. Therefore, it is significant to theoretically predict the compatibility of such so as to determine at what composition and temperature, these blends can be compatible. The present preliminary investigation reports the rheological characteristics of highly concentrated blend solutions (8 wt%) of dehydrated castor oil epoxy blend (DCOE) with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) at various compositions and temperatures to theoretically predict the miscibility of this blend in the solid phase. The obtained values were compared with the experimental results obtained from viscosity and ultrasonic velocity measurements.
