Abstract
In this case, a tech startup and a university research lab. that worked together to make an AI-powered plagiarism detection tool are fighting over who owns the intellectual property rights. The case shows how hard it is to deal with co-created knowledge assets when it comes to intellectual property ownership, academic freedom, commercialization, and gaps in institutional policy. In this case, you can see how academic freedom and commercialization goals can clash when people work together to come up with new ideas. When it comes to managing knowledge assets that were made together, it raises important questions about who owns them, how to give credit where credit is due, and how institutions are held accountable. The study makes it clear how badly industry-academia partnerships need standardized IP governance frameworks.
