Christian perspectives on music education: A framework for teaching to reach heads,hearts,and hands

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present a Christian perspective on teaching music. Throughout history, Christianity has pervaded the field of music education, impacting the way and the reasons music is taught. This article presents a brief review of historical and theological concepts relating to the philosophy of music education, with specific attention given to orthodoxy, orthopathos, and orthopraxis (or in simpler terms, head, heart, and hands). A preliminary philosophical framework is presented for incorporating the concept of teaching music to educate heads, hearts, and hands.
