Abstract
Objectives
This study aims to describe the clinical results of a novel surgical technique used in patients with chronic patellar tendon rupture, high patella, and non-reducible quadriceps shortening.
Methods
A cross-sectional study design was utilized, involving 5 patients treated with the described surgical technique. These patients were reassessed at 10, 24, and 48 weeks post-surgery. The techniques included staged surgery using patellar transosseous traction in the first stage and a modified Kelikian technique in the second stage.
Results
The study reported satisfactory functional and pain-related outcomes (Lysholm and IKDC scales), reduction in patellar height, and restoration of the full active range of motion in the affected knee.
Conclusion
The two-stage surgical technique for chronic patellar tendon rupture, incorporating patellar transosseous traction and a modified Kelikian technique, is simple, reproducible, and yields satisfactory clinical results.
