The drainage systems at Mohenjo-Daro and Nausharo: A technological breakthrough or a stinking disaster?

This article revisits the notion about one of the wonders of the Harappan heritage. The fact of street drains is not disputed, but it alone does not tell us what was drained out from the Mohenjo-daro houses, nor does it tell us how efficacious the system was. It then notices briefly the later Iron Age and Early Historic system of vertical drainage, which, in fact, may have wasted less clean water for clearance and could have made for more salubrious surroundings.
