The Sonographic Detection of a Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor

Adult pelvic sarcomas are very rare and typically do not produce noticeable symptoms until the mass has enlarged and invaded tissues and other organs. This case presents a desmoplastic small round cell tumor within the abdomen and pelvis initially identified on a sonogram ordered to rule out a hernia. Sonography detects and characterizes the mass, followed by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to obtain additional information that aids in leading to the final diagnosis. The use of multiple imaging modalities allows for accurate identification and helps to determine the next steps in proper treatment of the tumor.
