The Morphology and Thermal Stability of Ni–AI–Cr

Abstract

The morphology and thermal stability of two directionally solidified Ni–A1–Cr–C eutectic alloys that have Cr₃C₂ fibres in a Ni-rich matrix containing a dispersion of Ni₃A1 precipitates have been studied. The micromorphology has been investigated by normal metallographic techniques and by electron microscopy. The alloy has a high degree of morphological stability on heating to elevated temperatures and reasonable oxidation resistance up to 1373 K.
