Development of deformation texture and microstructure in cold-rolled Cu–30Zn

In order to understand the formation of rolling textures in Cu–30Zn it is necessary to consider the deformation modes which operate at different levels of cold reduction. This has involved a combination of optical microscopy, high-voltage electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques. There are three essential mechanisms, namely slip, twinning, and shear banding, which are mutually interactive. An evolutionary theory of rolling-texture development which refines and extends existing concepts by incorporating detailed information about the microstructure of the cold-worked state is described.
