Review of the structural architecture of turbidite-hosted gold deposits,Victoria,Australia

Abstract

Turbidite-hosted gold deposits have variable structural architectures and it is important for exploration and mining that the basic controls on the structures and veins hosting mineralisation are well understood. Significant advances have been made in Victoria (primarily) during the last decade by implementing high-resolution stratigraphic logging. This technique has allowed very thorough correlation and interpretation at several gold fields. Detailed reconstruction of fold and fault geometries and an understanding of the significant lithological controls on major reef-forming structures and vein distribution have resulted. The insights arising from this work have enabled more detailed depictions of mineralised shoots for exploration targetting and resource modelling.
