Smelting vanadium steel by direct alloying with self-reduction briquette of V 2 O 5

Experimental research on smelting vanadium steel by direct alloying with self-reduction briquettes of V₂O₅ has been conducted in a medium frequency induction furnace of the laboratory and in a 60 t ladle of Shijiazhuang Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. The result indicates that the amount of the reductant (FeSi) and the flux (CaO) inside the self-reduction briquette of V₂O₅ have effects on the yield of vanadium during the direct alloying, and the optimum composition of the self-reduction briquette of V₂O₅ is 23·88V₂O₅–29·75FeSi–15·93CaO–30·44CaF₂. When smelting vanadium steel by direct alloying in a 60t ladle, the average yield of V is 96·54%. Meanwhile, the steel product could achieve the required quality level.
