The loss of osseous support resulting from periodontal disease is an aetiological factor in the development of secondary malocclusions. Correction of these malocclusions demands advanced techniques and an understanding of the biological situation present in the adult patient with periodontal disease. Judicious interdisciplinary treatment planning, in particular with respect to the size and direction of the forces applied, can lead to satisfactory results obtained over relatively short periods.
