Some electrochemical aspects of the mechanisms of corrosion fatigue

Although predictability of environmental influences in fracture under nominally static loads, i.e. in stress corrosion failure, is reasonably good, this is not so in corrosion fatigue. Some of the reasons for this poor predictability of corrosive influences under cyclic loading conditions are considered, including the initiation and propagation stages of cracking and environment composition and potential changes within crack enclaves.
