Abstract
Some aspects of the dynamics of systems of coupled non-linear oscillators are discussed. By examining statistical properties of the dynamics, there can be synchronized states that are dynamically stable but nevertheless unstable on addition of noise. Some indication is given of how ergodic theory can help understand such bifurcations in general.
