A theory for bubble-flashing dynamics based on mass exchange between the bubble and the bulk water in the water phase is presented. Analytical methods for the steam-void dynamics are developed by considering two alternative models for bubble–mass exchange rate, i.e. distributed and lumped parameter models. The water-level swell dynamics are then determined by combining bubble flashing, steam void and boiler dynamics. A small boiler plant was constructed and experimental work was carried out by applying a step change on the valve position for various boiler pressures.
