Analysis of a Double Crank Mechanism Applied to a Yarn Guide Traverse

A theoretical study is made of the suitability of a double crank mechanism to impart motion to the yarn guide of a spinning machine. The theoretical predictions are compared with the structure of packages wound on a test rig incorporating a double crank mechanism. Errors in the theoretical predictions are found to be acceptably small. Finally, the double crank package is compared from the standpoint of density distribution with a package produced on a standard production machine. The results of this comparison indicate that the double crank drive may be a suitable alternative to the usual cam-driven traverse rod.
