Abstract

In this issue there are two case reports which it is hoped will be of interest to readers. The first is a particularly important addition to the increasing body of Human Rights Act decisions arising from cases of clinical negligence, which fills in a number of significant gaps left by the House of Lords in Savage. The second concerns the possible connection between hypoglycaemia and PVL, an issue which sometimes arises in obstetric claims.
The Department of Health has recently updated its guidance on consent: Reference Guide to Consent for Examination or Treatment. The first edition was published as long ago as March 2001, and this new version incorporates significant intervening developments such as the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the landmark ruling of the House of Lords in Chester v Afshar.
