Abstract

Howard Andrew Knox, pioneer of intelligence testing at Ellis Island, is written by John TE Richardson and published by Columbia University Press (ISBN 978-0-231-14168-0). Knox (1885–1949) was assistant surgeon at Ellis Island and wanted to determine the mental capacity of potential immigrants. This is the story of his life and work.
Nasim H Naqvi has written for the Indian Medical Tradition Series a volume entitled A study of Buddhist Medicine and Surgery in Candhara, published by Motilal Banardsidass Publishers (ISBN 978-81-208-3502-3), a good hardback with plenty of interest to medical historians who are concerned with the archaeology of the area and plant medicine.
