Abstract

This letter was recently sent to The Times and reproduced with kind permission from the author.
Dear Sirs,
I have enclosed a copy of the recent editorial ‘A case for prophylactic vaginal estrogen’ 1 published in the December 2010 issue of Menopause International because it offers hope and relief to thousands of women and deserves more publicity. I myself ran the Amarant Trust Advice Line for many years and, in that position, was able to help many women.
I am now 86 years of age and have been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for 57 years. I am on no other medication and I am fit and well. However, I expect I have an unfair advantage as I was a District Health Education Officer for Guy's Health District and have a healthy lifestyle.
The choice of HRT should be that of the menopausal woman, who is informed of the risks and the alternative of a good quality of life.
I am copying this letter to the British Menopause Society, so that they may forward it to the editors of the journal.
