Abstract
Using the generalized reflection and transmission coefficients method, the transmission properties of P-SV waves in a cylindrical periodically layered structure composed of elastomer and metal are calculated. It is shown that there are band gaps in the transmission spectra. There is a stopband in the audible frequencies range for P-wave incidence other than S-wave incidence, and its bandwidth expands with decreasing radius of the innermost layer. Excepting the low-frequency passband, the positions of band gaps are determined by the thickness and the wave velocities of the soft material, they appear at the frequencies satisfying the condition that thickness is an integral multiple of its P-/S-wave half-wavelength of the soft material for P-/S-wave incidence, and are insensitive to the hard material. The results point to the possibility of designing pipe sound insulation and waveguide devices.
