Abstract
This issue of JERHRE examines four topics: The fulfillment of roles within ethics committees; making effective agreements with subjects and when researching non-Western populations; responding appropriately to the vulnerabilities uncovered or created through use of new technologies; and guarding against confounding of clinical research designs by subjects who communicate with one another about the trial via the Internet. Educational activities are presented that enable readers to better digest and use the ideas presented in this issue. The following activities are best conducted in small groups.
