Abstract
While the importance of continuous coach development is widely recognised, there is limited guidance on how coaches plan for personal and professional growth. This study explores the developmental journeys of nine experienced executive coaches. Thematic analysis identified decision making criteria for selecting learning activities, which informed the creation of the Developmental Mindset Inventory (DMI) to support planning. Although credentialing requirements and competency frameworks provided a point of reference, developmental choices were more strongly shaped by context specific needs, prior experiences, and practical considerations. The findings highlight the importance of addressing both personal and professional needs when creating a development plan.
