The Halstead-Reitan Battery (HRB) was administered to 177 out-patient epileptics and the mean subtest scores along with sample parameters of age, education, and IQ were compared with data from other studies of brain-damaged, control, and epileptic Ss. Epileptics performed better than normal controls on 4 of 5 subtests in one study, and comparison with another HRB study of epileptics revealed gross sampling differences. The importance of sample parameters in cross-study comparisons of neuropsychological deficit in various brain pathology groups was underscored.
