A 4 × 4 × 4 factorial design was used to determine the effects of perceived similarity of source on the acceptance of information about fashion apparel by 48 women. A source perceived to be middle-range in perceived similarity to the subjects was most effective. Innovative and cautious subjects agreed most highly with information presented by different middle-range sources.
