Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine hand-grip preferences of 223 children and 59 adults (N = 282) while moving on a ladder apparatus positioned at 45°, 90°, and 180° positions. Three styles of grip were noted: thumb over bar, thumb under bar, and mixed. Analysis showed that 97% of the total group used the thumb under for the 45° task, while styles used on the 90° task were almost equally divided among the thumb under and over preference. The majority utilized the thumb over the bar for the 180° task (horizontal bar). No age trend was found for any of the tasks.
