The present experiment examined whether young children were capable of using precued information to preselect a response and remember it for a brief duration. The findings suggest that, indeed, the 10 4- and 5-yr.-olds could preselect a response and maintain the response for about 1 sec, but they had difficulty maintaining the response for a 3- or 5-sec. delay.
