Abstract
From the standardisation sample (n = 1003) for the Initial-letter Word-association Test (ILWAT), data for a sample of convenience, 145 students, were studied. Analysis indicates only the most frequent test-words and their associations, mean quotients of the quantitative scores, and relationship between semantic and syntactic characteristics of associations and quotients of quantitative scores are to be used as the norms of the test. 12 most frequent test-words should be analyzed: airplane, automobile, anaconda, Amazon, America, Afghanistan, Asia, Australia, mother, Anna, mortar (vessel, avan in SerboCroatian), and love; all save mother and love have the initial letter A as the most frequently selected initial letter, followed by initial letters M and S. The first eight test-words referring to vehicles (airplane, automobile) and nature (earth, water, and animal) were reported by men. The next four test-words (including airplane and automobile as the common test-words for both men and women) referred also to vehicles, human beings (mother, Anna), household objects (mortar, vessel). Positive emotional attitudes (love) were reported by women.
