It was suggested that response meaning provides an operational definition of “similarity” which is applicable in explaining some divergent results in the literature. It was noted that the similarity between the conditioning and transfer tasks is important to the degree that the latter situation provides an opportunity for specified, strengthened rms to be elicited and affect behavior.
