The author has developed a brief scale called the Problem Pathological Potential Scale (PPPS). This has been designed primarily as a research instrument to assess outcome research done within the framework of Thomas Szasz' “problems-in-living” approach to maladjustment. It may also prove useful to educators and guidance counselors, and others who wish to assess a person's particular problem areas. The scale's face validity is discussed, and the results of a pilot reliability study are presented.
