Differences in Reactions to Rosenzweig's P-F Study by Defensive and Nondefensive Repressors and Sensitizers

Repressor-sensitizer differences in expression of direct aggression (high scores on the extrapunitive dimension of Rosenzweig's Picture Frustration Study) were found only when the Marlowe-Crowne “defensiveness” measure was used to separate Ss into defensive and nondefensive types. Nondefensive repressors and sensitizers had significantly higher extrapunitive scores than defensive repressors. Since defensiveness in large part accounted for the differences which were found, it was concluded that the Marlowe-Crowne Scale seems to be a better measure of S's predisposition to approach or avoid making an aggressive response than is R-S.
