Abstract
The Caldas Committee of Coffee Growers and Cenicafé designed and applied a survey to 515 coffee growers in the department in order to know the current situation of coffee berry borer management (CBBM) applied on their farms. The survey was personal and semi- structured to diagnose the management of different CBBM components. It consisted of 65 questions (20% general aspects, 65% components of CBBM, 5% indicators and 10% opinion questions). It was applied in 218 divisions belonging to 23 municipalities. 16,2% of the coffee growers affirm having problems with CBB. 94,3% make frequent collections of mature fruits. 61,9% conduct CBB infestation surveys. But only 17,9% apply the method recommended by Cenicafé. 75.6% consider that chemical control is not enough. 62,3% apply insecticides and only 32% use category III products. 37, 2% know about biological control; however, only 16,6% apply Beauveria bassiana. In post harvest, 60% implement some control method but not all together. In general, 49% of the coffee growers base CBBM on opportune harvest and application of insecticides. The information obtained will serve to make adjustments in the investigation and transfer processes related with CBBM in order to facilitate implementation by coffee growers.
