Summary
Serum from acutely infected rats produced a 2- to 3-fold increase in mitotic index of rat marrow cells in short-term tissue cultures. These results suggest that a serum-borne marrow-stimulating substance may play a part in producing the characteristic peripheral granulocytosis which normally accompanies acute infection.
