Summary
In adrenalectomized rats, aldosterone and DCA exerted a greater effect on sodium retention than on potassium excretion or urine volume. Cortisone administered concomitantly with aldosterone enhanced the potassium excreting activity of aldosterone, and decreased the sodium retaining effect of aldosterone. The synergistic effect of these two types of steroids on potassium excretion was significantly diminished by spirolactone, suggesting that this increase in potassium excretion is related to secretion of this cation in the distal tubules.
