Abstract
Summary
1. The effect of digitoxin, aldo-sterone and sodium chloride feeding on synthesis of mitochondrial and nuclear phospho-lipids of liver, kidney and heart was studied.
2. Administration of digitoxin stimulated incorporation of the isotope into phosphatidyl inositol, sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl serine and phosphatidyl ethanolamine of liver, heart mitochondria and in all fractions of kidney mitochondria except phosphatidyl inositol. Phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl ethanolamine synthesis was stimulated in nuclei of liver, kidney and heart. Phosphatidyl serine synthesis was stimulated only in kidney nuclei and phosphatidyl inositol in heart and kidney nuclei.
3. Administration of aldosterone only stimulates the synthesis of phosphatidyl choline of kidney mitochondria and nuclei and phosphatidyl ethanolamine of mitochondria. 4. The feeding of excess sodium chloride failed to increase the incorporation of the isotope into the mitochondrial or nuclear phospholipids of liver and kidney.
